NVIDIA clears concerns about the power consumption of the new RTX Series 40 cards, will you have to change the power supply?

The power that your power supply must have to use the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090

The power supply unit (PSU) of type ATX 3.0 they will not be required to run the new NVIDIA 4TX 40 GPUs. Current ATX 2.0 type power supplies will continue to work without issue.

What minimum recommended amount of power do the three new NVIDIA 40-series graphics cards require?

• RTX 4090 – 450 W TGP and PSU of 850W
• RTX 4080 16GB – 320 W TGP and PSU of 750W
• RTX 4080 12GB – PSU of 700W

To give you an idea, the RTX 4090 requires the same voltage as the 3090 Ti. The 16GB 4080 uses 30 watts less than the RTX 3080 Ti, and the 12GB 40080 uses 65 watts less than the 3080.

NVIDIA boasts of having maintained the same energy consumption or even reduce it compared to the previous generation, while offering “significantly” more performance.

This means that, at the moment, no need to switch to new generation 3.0 power suppliesand that its energy requirements are similar to the current ones, despite being much more powerful.
