The business Asian has stakes in RiotGames, Epic Games, Supercell, Alibaba and even in Tequila Works, I study Spanish. This is just a small portion of what makes up Tencent’s fully consolidated holding company.

After having acquired many companies and rights, now Tencent wants to stay on top of the wave and for this it has already started to hire well-known personalities within the video game sector.

Shawn Layden: from PlayStation to Tencent

shawn laydenwho was the former CEO of PlayStation in the US a few years ago, now he has entered Tencent to become a strategic adviser of the company.

I am delighted to share that I recently joined Tencent Games as a strategic advisor.Layden commented in an updated LinkedIn post. In this new role, I look forward to advising, assisting and supporting the Tencent team as they deepen their activities and engagements within the industry that I have dedicated most of my career to.

We are in an epoch-defining moment in games and interactive entertainment. There are many possible paths ahead, but only a few are deep, broad, inclusive, uplifting, inspiring, and/or sustainable. I am delighted to continue this journey of discovery and thank Tencent for the opportunity.

The truth is that Shawn Layden left PlayStation at the end of 2019. His departure left us with some headlines like Days Gone 2 has been “dead” since the departure of the company executive. Do you remember his appearances at E3?

The funny thing is that recently, the paths of Sony and Tencent have crossed. Both companies have bought part of FromSoftware, creators of Elden Ring, Dark Souls or Sekiro.

What will be Tencent’s next moves? His power is getting bigger with Alibaba controlling a very large sector of the world market and with companies like Riot Games gaining more and more strength in the video game sector.
