Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection will be released in 2023 for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Like previous collections of the character, it will be divided into two volumes with three installments of the saga each, as well as its different versions. We have already tested it at TGS 2022 and we will tell you what we think.
we have already tried Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Volume 1which includes Mega Man Battle Network, Mega Man Battle Network 2, and Mega Man Battle Network 3, in its two Western versions, Blue and White.
The demo we tried was the Japanese version for the Tokyo Game Show 2022, so instead of including Mega Man Battle Network 3 Blue and White, it had the basic Japanese version and the Black edition.
But what has been said we are in Japan, and the version that will arrive in Europe will be different, although fundamentally, characteristics and gameplay, it will be practically identical to what we are going to tell you.
Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection – trailer
We missed you Mega Man!
The popularity of the Battle Network sub-saga was remarkable. It debuted in 2001 and, from then on, became one of the series with the most Game Boy Advance fans.
Such was its popularity that it came to have deliveries on other consoles and even arcades. However, this Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection compilation brings together the main saga.
Those of you who know the Mega Man Legacy Collection will already know what you are going to find. These are very faithful adaptations of the original games in all their pixelated glory.
Playing them in handheld mode on Nintendo Switch will feel more natural, but there’s nothing stopping you from enjoying the games on a big screen just like we did in the Tokyo Game Show demo.
The world of Mega Man Battle Network
We return to the future, to an undetermined year of 21XX. In this world, the Internet is everything. And, to enter the Internet, the Metaverse is not used, but there is a way to enter it through the use of NetNavis.
The protagonist of the story is Lan Hikari, a young and restless student who stands out for being the son of one of the greatest researchers and experts in the world of NetNavis.
For his part, his NetNavi is MegaMan.EXE, which, as you already know, is a different version of the Mega Man from other alternative worlds (like the Mega Man from the classic numbered deliveries).
Lan and MegaMan.EXE begin their adventure without knowing that they will end up becoming the pillar of protection for the planet against a terrible organization. However, the story has a lot of content and depth, especially as the deliveries develop.

Battles in Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection
The combat system of all installments of the saga is very different from that of any other Mega Man game. The reason for this is that the confrontations are carried out “RPG style”.
The screen is divided into two sides: on the left side is Mega Man, while on the right are the enemies. Each half has a movement space, so the attacks, unless we reduce the space with an object, are made from a distance.
During the battles of Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection It is possible to use MegaMan.EXE’s blaster to shoot without limit, but it is best to open the BattleChips menu every time the energy is full.
There you can choose the battle chips that you want to use at that moment of the fight. There are limits to keep in mind, as well as chips that will be more or less recommended depending on the situation, such as long-distance bombs, strong and fast shots or even sword attacks.
One of the incentives of the game is to get new chips to make a good deck that maximizes the chances we have of obtaining victory in any type of combat.
At the beginning of each battle we are given five random chips from the deck we have, but we can invest the energy of a turn in adding an additional line with another five using the “Add” command.
What’s new in this Legacy version
Capcom attaches great importance to each user being able to play comfortably according to their demands or visual preferences. Therefore, different filters can be selected to soften the image or leave it with full pixels as they were displayed in the original version.
It is also possible to play full screen or bordered with various background designs to choose from. In all cases, it is transmitted a good feeling full of nostalgia that retrogaming lovers will love and to those who enjoyed the GameBoy Advance versions.
Another novelty lies in the availability of both a musical jukebox and a gallery full of artworks and other visual materials. The Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection art gallery is one of the most complete that has been seen in the Capcom compilationseven including some rare illustrations that weren’t seen much at the time.
For its part, the music player is very practical and allows you to create playlists. Best of all, you can listen to your chosen songs while you’re browsing the gallery.
The Ultimate Mega Man Battle Network Compilation
During the course of the demo we have tested both the first Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Battle Network 3: Black. Both titles maintain an intuitive, role-playing gameplay that hooks you from the first moment.
For this reason, we have no doubt that it will obtain good results among the fans of this sub-saga of the Capcom character. However, we are left Two doubts that for now have not been resolved.
The first is if there will be the possibility to play Mega Man Battle Network 3 with the Japanese versions by changing the language of the console (without changing it, surely not).
In theory, it should be possible, since the Japanese cartridge will have English texts. That would imply that, at the same time, the Japanese could change the language to English to try Mega Man Battle Network 3 Blue and White.

At the Capcom booth we were only told that changing the language would change the title of the main screen (going from Rockman to Mega Man), so it’s not too clear either. Better to wait for the official information to be revealed.
the other question is what will Capcom do to manage the use of special chips. The Mega Man Battle Network sub-series was very popular in Japan, so much so that chips were given out at events and with cross-promotions.
In western versions, to access these chips, you had to use cheats. However, it remains to be seen what Capcom does about it, since, for now, from the Tokyo Game Show they say that they have not decided.
Whatever the final decision, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection promises to be another compilation gem that, like other recent titles such as Ninja Turtles The Cowabunga Collection, promises to take care of and add content (such as the gallery) that will make it extremely interesting for fans of the “blue firefighter”.
