Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe – Trailer UbiForward 2022

In the Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe trailer a camera pans through a lush forest, but voices and barking dogs can be heard in the background.

But shortly after the scene changes and you can see the Assassins’ insignia made of sticks, which is hanging from a branch and held by a rope.

It is then that what is in the background disappears, it fades to black and an invocation circle appears in the background of the symbol; this confirms the name ‘Hexe’ (pronounced Hex-ai).

This is pretty much everything we know about the game right now, aside from the description given by the executive producer Marc-Alexis Cote what is it about “a very different Assassin’s Creed game“.

That in itself has led many fans to speculate that this could be a complete horror experience, although there are those who think of the game as a VR adventure.

Be that as it may right now and beyond these speculations, there are players and fans of the Assassin’s Creed saga who are already talking about having figured out the setting of the game.

In Reddit user Comrade_Jacob says the name immediately reminded him of the 1922 Swedish silent film ‘Häxan’, which was actually the first dramatic documentary about witchcraft.

Other players have pointed out that ‘Hexe’ is the German word for Witchcraft, which seems to confirm the Germanic setting of the new game.

And that is not all since there are those who have investigated more, specifically about the writing used in the summoning circle. He claims that it is ‘Magi’, which was created by a 16th century Swiss philosopher.

A fan made translation states that the text only says: “We work in the dark to serve the light“. That’s another valuable clue, especially since the beginning of the sentence can be read on the official tweet.

Lastly, that original comment refers to the Malleus Maleficarum, a 15th-century treatise by a Catholic clergyman that equated witchcraft and sorcery with outright heresy.

The book was responsible for an increase in the number of brutal punishments for those accused of witchcraft during the Renaissance.

These clues along with the dogs suggest that Hexe would be set in the Wurzburg witch trials. These were made from 1625 to 1631 in Central Germany and although they were not the only ones in their time, they were the largest of the period.
