During a talk at the ReelBlend Podcast by CinemaBlend, Tarantino gave in to Top Gun Maverick, stating that his viewing was a “fantastic” experience.

“Normally I don’t talk much about new movies because I’m only forced to say good things, but in this case I love Top Gun, the Maverick movie. I thought it was fantastic,” said the filmmaker.

The director also revealed that got to talk to Tom Cruise about what it was like shooting the Top Gun sequel without its original director, Tony Scott..

“It wasn’t that much of a concern,” Tarantino said. “I figure if he was going to do it, he handles it well. But I asked (Cruise), I said, ‘How do you do Top Gun without Tony Scott?’ And he’s like, ‘I know. Look, I know. You’re right. That’s why I said, No. All these years I’ve said no for that very reason, but we found a way. We came up with a good story.'”

“There was this lovely aspect, because I love Tony Scott’s movies so much, and I love Tony so much that Top Gun: Maverick Is The Closest We’ll Get To Seeing Another Tony Scott Movie“, he added.

“[El director Joseph Kosinski] did a great job. Tony’s respect and love was in every frame. He was in almost all the decisions. She was consciously right there, but in this really cool way that she was really respectful. And I think she was in every decision Tom made about the movie,” the filmmaker explained.
