huawei has announced the laptops MateBook 16s and D16 for Europe. The first, as usual in the brand of Chinese origin, tries to compete with Apple’s MacBook Pro 16, while the second has a somewhat lower profile, but that does not mean that it has poor performance, quite the opposite.
The Huawei MateBook 16s is now available in Europe with a reference price of €1,699. The corporation has decided for this model to return to Intel processors instead of continuing with AMD Ryzen, since on that front it incorporates a Intel Core i7-12700H belonging to the Alder Lake generation and that has six high-power cores and eight focused on efficiency. Huawei has confirmed that there will be a variant with an Intel Core i9-12900H processor and the same core distribution by mid-July, but we’ll see which markets it ends up reaching.
When it comes to the screen, the Huawei MateBook 16s includes a 16-inch IPS touch (logical thing seeing the name of the model) that works at a native resolution of 2520×1680 pixels3:2 aspect ratio, 1500:1 contrast ratio, 300 nits brightness, and support for 100% of the sRGB color spectrum. All of this prints what is processed by the processor’s integrated graphics Xe.
The Huawei MateBook 16s has a memory level with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM along with a PCIe NVMe SSD with 512GB or 1TB of storage of data. The 84Wh battery is accompanied by a charger that works at 135 watts and the device supports charging via USB Type-C. The webcam, meanwhile, supports FullHD resolution (1080p).
As for connections, we find two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (rectangular); one USB Type-C (reversible) supporting data, charging, and DisplayPort; a USB Type-C compatible with Thunderbolt 4, charging and DisplayPort; one HDMI; a 3.5-millimeter jack connector for headphones and a microphone; in addition to Wi-FI IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax together with Bluetooth 5.2.
The dimensions of the Huawei MateBook 16s are 351 x 254.9 x 17 × 8 millimeters and its weight is approximately 1.99 kilograms. The operating system present by default is Windows 11 Home.
For his part, the Huawei MateBook D 16 has a screen of the same type and size, but with a resolution of 1,920×1,200 pixels, an aspect ratio of 16:10, a contrast ratio of 1,200:1 and no touch capabilities. The available processors are Intel Core i5-12450, Core i5-12500H and Core i7-12700Hof which only the last two have Xe graphics.
For memory, of course, the Huawei MateBook D 16 makes more modest configurations available. At the level of RAM it is possible to choose in 8 and 16 gigabytes and for storage the configuration is only of 512GB via PCIe NVMe SSD, or at least that is what the official product sheet says. The battery, in this case, is of lower capacity, more specifically 60Wh.
The webcam also works at a resolution of 1080p and as connections it has a USB Type-C with support for data, charging and screen; a USB Type-C with support for data and charging; one USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 1; one USB 2.0; an HDMI port; a 3.5mm jack for headphones and microphone; Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax; in addition to Bluetooth 5.1.
The dimensions of the Huawei MateBook D 16 are 356.7 x 248.7 x 18.4 millimeters and its weight is approximately 1.7 kilograms. As an operating system we meet again with Windows 11 Home and its base price is 999 euros.
