XIII patch replaces one game with another and launches in September: second chance for the failed remake

The remake of XIII, which came out in a deplorable state in 2020, will receive a patch in September for PS4, Xbox One and PC (along with a new version of Switch) that modifies it from top to bottom: it is as if they changed the old game for a new one, and will include online multiplayer.

Two years ago Microids released the remake of XIII, a first-person shooter popular for its aesthetics cell shadingwhich gave the game the look of a moving comic (precisely because it adapted the first five volumes of the comic of the same name by artist William Vance and writer Jean Van Hamme.

Unfortunately, the version launched for sale in November 2020 was not up to par. First, because its graphic facelift did not justify the original, with a more generic appearance in comparison. Second, because of the number of bugs it had. Third, the absence of an online mode.

In short, the game developed by PlayMagic was a poor product that should never have been released, and that dragged several delays. Fortunately, that (should) change this September.

13th Remake

The French publisher Microids (which took over the license that Ubisoft published in 2003, which has nothing to do with the remake) has confirmed that on september 13 a patch will be released that will improve it from top to bottom, on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

version of thirteenth nintendo switch, which was never released, will arrive on the same day. The following gameplay is new and captured in the Switch version:

XIII Remake – Switch Gameplay

This patch (in the absence of seeing if it is up to the task) it will really be as if they replaced one remake with anotherbecause it has been developed by a different studiothe French studio Tower Five, which has been working on it for almost two years, “redoing” the remake the game from the ground up.

Meridiem Games (publisher in Spain of all Microids games) has shared a series of changes from this patch of XIII Remake (and the new version for Switch):

  • new art direction
  • improved AI
  • rebuilt HUD
  • Improved sound design
  • 60fps on PS5/Xbox Series
  • 30fps on Switch
  • Online multiplayer from 2 to 13 players

We are fully aware and very sorry that the initial release of XIII Remake for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC did not meet the quality standards expected by gamers..” says Stéphane Longeard, CEO of Microids.

Longeard explains that Tower Five worked with them on the Switch port of Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders, and “they wanted to take the time to fix the game and offer XIII Remake owners a free update that would pay the best possible tribute to the original game we all love.

XIII is a first-person shooter in which you play an amnesiac man with great combat skills, who investigates the conspiracy behind the assassination of the president of the United States. Your only identity is the number XIII tattooed on your collarbone.
