Will Smith banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years

After his resignation from the Academy, it presents its sentence: Will Smith will not be able to attend the Oscars again for the next 10 years… but he could be nominated and even win it. They also cannot legally take the prize away from him.

The “guantazogate”, the Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars a week and a half ago, has not gone unpunished. Although Rock declined to press charges, the Academy of Arts and Sciences opened an investigation, and this is the verdict: Will Smith banned from the Oscars for 10 years.

As of April 8, 2022, Will Smith will not be able to attend any Academy events or programs. This includes the Oscar Awards. He couldn’t attend virtually either.

the veto does not prevent you from being nominated again or even winning. Yes Will Smith will win his second Oscar sometime before 2033, he would not be able to attend to collect the award.

Smith won his first Oscar in this edition, for his role in The Williams Methodwhich he received a few minutes after the incident with Chris Rock, without the Academy interrupting his speech.

The Academy also does not have the legal power to withdraw the award.. Harvey Weinstein, sentenced to 23 years in prison, and Roman Polanski, banned from entering the United States, still keep their Oscars even despite being expelled from the Academy.

This is part of the Academy’s statement, via Variety:The 94th Academy Awards was meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work over the past year, however, all of those moments were overshadowed by the damaging and unacceptable behavior that Mr. Smith exhibited on stage.“.
