This scene from The Office was so funny that they had to stop recording

A fit of laughter made The Office crew unable to film one of the Season 5 sequences, having to take a break.

One of the main challenges that actors face on a film set is to prevent any external factor from altering or distracting them when they interpret a character.

The challenge is even greater when you are in a comedy, where ridiculous situations follow one another and fits of laughter are frequent.

Many of us have seen outtakes of movies and series that have had trouble filming scenes due to fits of laughter, and The Office is no exception.

So much so that a sequence of the season 5 of the famous sitcom had to be interrupted for Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski to recover from a tremendous fit of laughter that prevented them from saying their lines.

Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela) shared the experience through The Office Ladies podcast (via Masable).

The actresses saw in the first person how their co-stars were unable to get ahead with a scene from the episode Talk session, part one.

The episode in question saw Jim and Dwight as heads of the Party Committee. His first mission was to forget Kelly’s birthday (Mindy Kaling).

The chaos began during Kelly’s “apology” scene, where she “just didn’t want something like this to happen to anyone else.” The three already had a fit of laughter in that sequence, but the thing would get out of hand later.

Trying to make it up to Kelly, Dwight and Jim start throwing her a birthday party. Dwight decorates the boardroom in muted colors; brown and silver balloons, tacky streamers, and a banner that read “IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY.”

When Jim is going to reproach Dwight for his taste in decorating, they start an argument, including a balloon toss. Well, that’s what we would see in the episode, but shooting it was a triumph for the team.

Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski laughed until they cried during several attempts to film the scene. so much that the crew had to stop filming The Office for 20 minutes for the two actors to recover.

Although it may seem strange that, after five seasons of The Office, both of them would have a fit of laughter about it, it is clear that there are situations that one cannot control.

One more anecdote that we can add to the scene in The Office that John Krasinski refused to film so as not to destroy Jim and Pam’s relationship.
