The Game Director of the Perfect Dark reboot, Dan Neuburger, has left The Initiative. Previously, he had worked on Tomb Raider for Crystal Dynamics.
One of the most outstanding games of the RARE pre Microsoft was Perfect Darkone of the last exclusives that Nintendo 64 received in 2000. In 2020 it was announced that The Initiativea new Xbox studio founded in 2018, is making a sequel or reboot of Perfect Dark for Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10 PC.
Details since then have been very sketchy, save for confirmation that Crystal Dynamics is also collaborating on the game. Precisely, the founder of The Initiative, Darrel Gallagher was a director before Crystal Dynamics.
In your profile LinkedIn we see that Neuburger abandoned The Initiative in February 2022after more than three years. Previously, he worked at Crystal Dynamics for 12 years, where he was director of Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
At the moment, it is unknown where Daniel Neuburger will continue his career.
According to the insider Klobrille in Reseterathis is a sign that The Initiative is a study that, living up to its name, is in charge of starting the concept and pre-production of the games, what later are taken up by other studies with more resourcessuch as Crystal Dynamics.
Klobrille also suggests that the game could be further away than we thought, although he thinks that a release in 2023 it is feasible for the return of Joanna Dark, femme fatala who fights aliens… and is inspired by Dana Scully.
With a catalog of hundreds of titles, Game Pass is your best option to play these days if you want to spend little money.
It is expected that Perfect Dark show its first trailer with gameplay this E3 2022. Insider Jeff Grubb believes that Perfect Dark is planned as a 2023 release for the Xbox Game Pass ecosystem. It would be one of Microsoft’s great releases along with Avowed.
In addition, he adds that Microsoft is already planning an event for June 2022, a Xbox Game Showcase, which would be part of E3 2022… or not, because it is unknown if it will take place. Whatever happens, Xbox isn’t changing its plans to make an online presentation in June.
This is not the first time that a high-ranking member of The Initiative has left the studio during the production of Perfect Dark. A year ago we learned of the loss of Drew Murray, design director of Perfect Dark, for personal reasons. Murray returned to Insomniac Gamesstudio where he had worked for ten years at the beginning of his career.
