Netflix raises its prices again in the US and Canada

Netflix vuelve a subir sus precios en EEUU y Canadá

It seems that Netflix wants to join that tradition in which, hand in hand with a change of year, there are also price increases in products and services of all kinds and conditions. And it is that, as we can read on gadget, users of the service in the United States and Canada will have to assume price increases of between one and two dollars in their monthly installments in order to continue using the streaming service.

As we are used to and in a good application of that saying “When you see your neighbor’s beard cut…”, so there is the possibility that not long after, let’s see a similar movement among other countries. Now, let’s hope that in Spain it takes a long time to happen, and not only because a price increase is always bad news, it is that here we already had a Netflix price increase just three months ago.

«We understand that people have more entertainment options than ever and we are committed to providing an even better experience for our members.said a Netflix spokesperson. «We are updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. As always, we offer a range of plans so members can choose a price that fits their budget.«.

It is true that in recent times Netflix faces more competition than ever, and this situation is not unique to North America. In Spain, to analyze our local market, it is currently facing HBO Max, Disney+ and Prime Video, from Amazon, all of them with lower prices than Netflix. And obviously competing in the league of content makes perfect sense, especially if we take into account that the catalogs of its alternatives do not stop growing.

Now, with these price increases, it may be making it easier for the competition. It is true that if we talk about streaming movies and series, Netflix is the first name that comes to mind for many of us, but it is no less true than in recent years it has been clearly noticed the exit of the service of many movies and series that are now on other platforms. In other words, for not a few users, Netflix has been losing prestige for some time now, and it does not seem that this trend is going to reverse in the immediate future.

A) Yes, probably not the best time for a price increase. It is true that the company needs liquidity to be able to take on new productions and the purchase of rights to more content, but perhaps it would make more sense for it to look for other ways to finance said commitment to content, and then, with a winning offer from them. , when he proceeded to raise the price of subscriptions.

Be that as it may, I want to think that in Spain we can rest easy and not wait for this new increase to arrive, at least until mid-2023. However, there is no certainty that allows us to affirm it, beyond common sense itself. Hopefully this prevails this time.
