Embracer Group buys Dark Horse Comics, one of the largest publishers with titles such as Hellboy, The Umbrella Academy or Sin City

Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordiq AB) buys Dark Horse Comics, the publisher that owns IPs such as Sin City, The Umbrella Academy, Hellboy, 300, La Máscara or Time Cop.

Embracer Group, formerly known as THQ Nordiq AB, continues to grow its portfolio by positioning itself as one of the largest European video game companies, a holding that includes companies such as Gearbox, Saber Interactive, Koch Media, Coffee Stain or Easybrain.

The Swedish holding company has announced the purchase of five companies, among which stands out Dark Horse Media, one of the largest comic book publishers in the United States, which although it does not operate in Spain (its titles have been distributed by other local publishers) is the third most important behind Marvel and DC.

In a official statement, Embracer gives details about this operation and what it will mean at the content level. “Through the acquisition, Embracer strengthens its transmedia capabilities by adding experience in content development, comic book publishing, and film and TV production.. “

They emphasize that more than 300 intellectual properties owned or controlled by Dark Horse can provide a solid foundation for the development of transmedia IPs and the opportunity for use of licenses in collaborations through PC, console, mobile and VR.

Those IPs include published titles such as The Works of Frank Miller 300 and Sin City, the Hellboy by Mike Mignola, La Máscara, The Umbrella Academy, Pillar, Time Cop, Resident Alien, Ghost or Usagi Yojimbo.
