JK Simmons found out he’d be playing J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man from a fan

20 years ago, fans also found out before anyone else the latest news, as the anecdote of JK Simmons and Spider-Man shows.

Imagine to J. Jonah Jameson in live action played by an actor other than JK Simmons it is a complicated task.

The 66-year-old actor endorsed the marvel character in the Spider-Man trilogy of Sam raimi, where the editor-in-chief of the Daily bugle forever established himself as one of the fan-favorite characters.

Following the Raimi trilogy, Simmons’ career changed forever, landing larger roles that even resulted in an Oscar in Whiplash.

He has also been a regular actor in comic book adaptations. We have seen it as the Commissioner Gordon in Zack Snyder’s Justice League (and we’ll see him again in Zack Snyder’s movie Batgirl).

Simmons has given voice to Omni man in the comic book adaptation of Invincible from Robert kirkman made by Amazon Prime Video.

And of course, he returned to life as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and will do the same in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Speaking to The Ringer, JK Simmons recalled how he found out 20 years ago that he had landed the role of J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man.

The actor remembers that he was at Gray Advertising for an audition to do a voiceover when an agency worker, a Spider-Man fan, stopped him.

“A 28-year-old boy came out of his cubicle and said ‘OMG, JK, congratulations!’ I asked him why and he replied “Are you kidding me? Spider-Man! Jonah Jameson! ‘

The boy had found out before I did through a Spider-Man website. My agent called me 3 hours later and I said ‘Yes, I know’ ».

The JK Simmons is not the only case related to the Marvel wall-crawler in which an actor has found out almost the last that they have signed him, himself Tom holland learned by “unofficial channels” of his signing to give life to Peter parker.
