The director of Guardians of the Galaxy has shared what the ranking of Spider-Man film adaptations is for him.
With the number of film adaptations the Spider-Man character has had, the debate of which is the best is already as legitimate as the one that tries to discern which has been the best Batman of cinema and television throughout history. A very personal ranking that director James Gunn has had no problem sharing.
Of course, contrary to what you might think, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy has not chosen one of the two films of the MCU wall-crawler to lead the ranking, but has decided to go for animation and the classic Sam Raimi trilogy.
After film journalist Matt Ramos shared his ranking of Spider-Man adaptations to the cinema putting No Way Home in first place, which has not yet been released, Gunn answered him by changing the first three places of his Top 9.
“Spider-Man: A New Universe is the best, followed by Spider-Man 2 and then Homecoming“, assured the director of Marvel, who has left in third place the first film of Tom Holland of the UCM and has put as “winner” to the animated film by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

And it is not surprising because this tape is the only superhero film to win an Oscar in the Best Picture category, more specifically in the animation nominations where he won the statuette in 2019, surpassing the Pixar film, The Incredibles 2, or the Disney film, Ralph breaks the internet.
While Sony is already developing the second installment of Spider-Man: A New Universe, James Gunn is already fully involved in filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, his next film for the MCU that will not arrive until 2022.
