Last week the Animal Crossing Direct took place, the event that Gran N used as a stage to present the next news that will reach the successful Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch.

In addition to everything included in version 2.0 (Figaro’s cafeteria, gyroids, crops, kitchen …), a paid expansion called Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, which will add a huge number of new features reminiscent of the spin-off launched for 3DS in 2015. It can be purchased separately or as part of the Nintendo Switch Online expansion pack.

One of the novelties of update 2.0 is the return of Captain. The “friendly” turtle, which had appeared in previous installments, will allow us to travel in his boat to mysterious islands with never seen flora or at a different time or season of the year. Broadly speaking, it could be defined as a legal way to do the famous “time travel”.

But this is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so of course the trip will not be free: we will have to pay a total of 1,000 Nook Miles to contract their services.

For those who have not stopped playing the title since it was released and have accumulated 500 hours (or more), this is little more than change. But for the rest of mortals, the boat trip represents a significant outlay.

As they point out in Kotaku, the community is divided about it– Some of Animal Crossing’s biggest content creators, like Kkaislider or Fwoggyholly, have expressed their surprise and discontent when discovering the prices, inviting his followers to start saving Miles to pay for travel.

In addition, since there is already a relatively similar service (the Dodo airlines, which for 2,000 Nook Miles take us to a mysterious island), and that what Captain offers can be found in one way or another in the game, fans cannot avoid wondering what is the point of this new option.

Maybe using Captain’s services includes benefits that Nintendo hasn’t announced yet? In any case, we will leave doubts next November 5, when update 2.0 becomes available for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
