Paramount delays (again) the premieres of Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7

Bells had been ringing in this regard for a few days, and it has finally been confirmed. Last week, during the CinemaCon Las Vegas, there was talk that some studios were studying delaying their most anticipated films in response to the increase in cases of COVID-19 in United States.

After showing some previews of the upcoming films starring Tom cruise at the convention, Paramount Pictures has determined to delay, once again, the premieres of Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7.

The premiere of the sequel to Top Gun was originally planned for summer 2020, but the pandemic caused the film to be delayed until May 27, 2022, which is the date that Paramount has set after this new delay.

As for Mission Impossible 7, the pandemic forced the closure of its production in Italy for several weeks in spring 2020.

The seventh installment of the action franchise starring Tom Cruise was originally due to premiere in November 2021, but delays later placed it in May 2022.

However, with Top Gun: Maverick occupying the date of Mission Impossible 7, the tape directed by Christopher McQuarrie is delayed again, until September 30, 2022.

Possibly this new delay in Mission Impossible 7 affect the premiere (and shooting) plan of Mission Impossible 8, the new, and confirmed, delivery whose shooting will have to deal with the marketing campaign of Top Gun: Maverick and with that of the film itself that precedes it.

It remains to be seen if other major studios follow in Paramount’s footsteps of delaying blockbusters until well into 2022, or if they will continue to bet on a more immediate release, although the global collection may be lower.

What do you think of the new delay suffered by the release dates of Mission Impossible 7 and Top Gun: Maverick?
