Champions, the successful and inclusive film by Javier Fesser, a winner at the box office and at the 2018 Goya Awards, will have an American remake. And according to Murphy’s Multiverse, the Charles Murhpy website, has already found its protagonist. Woody harrelson will be the protagonist of the American remake, playing the character played here by Javier Gutiérrez.
The remake of “Champions” seems to follow the original script by David Marqués and Javier Fesser, that is, an irascible basketball coach who, after being fined and forced to do community work, will coach a basketball team made up of people with disabilities.
The friendly and fun comedy launched an inclusive message that struck a chord with more than 3 million viewers, the last great success of Spanish cinema, and changed the lives of many of its hitherto unknown protagonists.
Bobby farrelly (Me, Myself and Irene, Two Dumb Dumbs) will direct the remake, with a script adapted by Mark Rizzo. The rest of the cast is unknown, but they expect to begin production next November. The casting of the members of the basketball team is taking place now.
Woody Harrelson has already starred alongside Wesley Snipes in another comedy from the basketball world, Whites do not know how to put it (White Men Can’t Jump) from 1992. He will soon star alongside Tom Hardy in the Marvel sequel Venom: There Will Be Carnage, in which he will play the villain Cletus Classidy, who becomes the symbiote Matanza (Carnage). Unfortunately, the premiere was delayed to October 15, 2021, and threatens to be delayed again if the contagions of the Delta variant of Covid-19 continue to rise …
What do you think they are going to make an American remake of Champions? Are you looking forward to seeing Bobby Farrelly and Woody Harrelson’s interpretation of this emotional story?
