Hildur Guðnadóttir made history when he composed the soundtrack for the 2019 film Joker, and won all the major awards this season: the Oscar, the Golden Globe, the Bafta, the Grammy …
The 38-year-old Icelandic composer had previously composed the soundtracks for Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Chernobyl, but her next project will move away from the cinema, although without abandoning the cinematographic sounds: she will sign, together with her artistic and personal partner, Sam slater, the music of Battlefield 2042.
“We are excited to be working on our first video game in Battlefield 2042, and collaborating with Electronic Arts. It has been a profound creative experience to dive into this world and create a truly unique and disruptive musical environment for this game“, said Gudnadóttir and Slater on Billboard.
Steve Schnur, president of music at Electronic Arts, has described Hildur and Sam’s soundtrack as “none other, where music and sound design blend to create an extraordinary sound space.”
“I can safely say that the original Battlefield 2042 soundtrack is the most significant cinematic achievement in the franchise, and a revolution for the medium.”
Slater will compose the Battlefield 2042 soundtrack with Gudnadóttir, after serving as producer on the Joker and Chernobyl soundtracks. Joker’s music was highly acclaimed for its experimental and almost choking sounds, so we can’t wait to hear what they’ve created to accompany the epic 128-player battles of Battlefield 2042.
Battlefield 2042 is out October 22, and its soundtrack will be released digitally by Lakeshore Records. Lakeshore and Indava Records will also release the soundtrack on vinyl. Their music will accompany the original narrative of the game, which will not have a campaign mode but will narrate the story of their future world war in various ways … and they recently released the short Exodus.
