The next August 25th Psychonauts 2 is coming to stores, the long-awaited sequel to one of the cult classics for PS2 and Xbox. Double Fine, its creators, have detailed resolutions and performance of each version of the game, on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
You already know that Psychonauts 2 will not have a native edition on PS5, but will be played on the Sony console through backward compatibility with PS4. Instead, on Xbox Series X | S there will be a new generation version, and we already know at what resolution and performance the title runs.
Psychonauts 2 will work, by default, at 4K resolution and 60fps on Xbox Series X, with HDR and VRR. However, Double Fine indicates that there will be a performance mode, which will run at 120fps and 1440p resolution. That, of course, speaking of Microsoft’s next-gen older sister.
In the case of Xbox Series S, Psychonauts 2 will work at 1440p and 60fps, with the option of a performance mode that will up to 120 fps… although reducing the resolution, which drops to 1080p. Obviously, this version also has HDR and variable refresh rate (VRR).
If we talk about Windows 10, the title of Double Fine will be adjusted to the resolution and frames that your equipment and graphics support, so are set to unlimited. PC version supports VRR, but will not have HDR at the moment, something exclusive to Series X and Series S.
Double Fine has also indicated the resolutions and performance on Xbox One and Xbox One X. On the base model and S, the game runs at 1080p and 30 fps, while in One X it does it at 4K and 30 fps, a resolution higher than that shown in Series S.
Finally, the PlayStation 4 version will run at 1080p and 30fps by default, although if we play it on PS5 it is set to 1440p and 60fps. It does not have HDR or VRR, while in PS4 Pro it maintains the same resolution, but falling to 30 fps.
Psychonauts 2 goes on sale next August 25, available on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PC and PS4. If you have a PS5, you can play the Double Fine title through backward compatibility, enjoying a higher frame rate than on PS4 and PS4 Pro.
