Dozens of indie developers have organized on the platform itch.io to offer a bundle with more than a thousand items, with the aim of raising funds for humanitarian aid in Palestine. With a minimum donation of $ 5, you can get 1,019 items (including indie games, soundtracks, books, assets and other tools); all money will be donated to the UNRWA, the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees. You can participate here.
Although there are hundreds of games included in this bundle, the featured game of the pack is Liyla and The Shadows of War, a game of Palestinian developer Rasheed Abueideh which tells the story of a girl living in Gaza during the 2014 war, in which 30% of civilian casualties were children.
Making quick decisions can mean the difference between life and death for a girl trying to find her family, in a very emotional and raw experience that allows to see the conflict from different points of view.
“Indie games are unique in that they can tell stories not seen in AAA games. We pour our life experiences into games and share a part of ourselves with the world. Palestinian developers are no different in that respect, but they have the additional challenge of limited access to basic services such as water, electricity, food and medical care. They live under the Israeli authority that discriminates and subjugates Palestinians to the point of persecution and apartheid just because they are Palestinians. “, they explain in the text of the bundle, signed by the founder of Toadhouse Games Alanna Linayre.
Among the hundreds of games that have collaborated in the bundle are such acclaimed indies as Mini Metro, VVVVVV, Nuclear Thorne, Wheels of Aurelia or Minit. Books are also included, including an investigation into the canceled PT (you can research everything included here).
Remember: only by paying 5 dollars (just over 4 euros) you can get everything, but you can donate whatever you want. As of this writing, $ 486,551 of the 500,000 goal had been raised. The bundle will be available until Friday, June 11.
The Itch.io platform is used to launching bundles for solidarity purposes: last year they organized one for racial equality and equity
