Scarlett Johansson attacks the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and accuses them of "sexists"

Things are changing, society is evolving and demands more recognition from some sectors of the population historically overlooked in film or television, which is why film academies or those responsible for the great prizes change their protocols to adapt to these demands.

Thus the Oscars have restructured their jury and the way of nominating, and so has the Foreign Press Association (HFPA) which is in charge of giving the Golden Globes, but not everyone has liked this change as has been evidenced in recent days with criticism from platforms such as Amazon Prime Video or Netflix, which has now been joined by actress Scarlett Johansson in a statement published by Variety.

“As a performer promoting a film, one hopes to participate in awards season by attending press conferences as well as award galas. In the past, normally, This meant facing sexist questions from HFPA members that even bordered on sexual harassment. It is for this reason that, for years, I have refused to appear at your press conferences. The HFPA is an organization that has been legitimized by people like Harvey Weinstein to try to amass recognition for the Oscars. Unless there is a necessary, fundamental reform within the HFPA, I think it is best to take a step back and focus on the importance of the strength that we have in our unions and in the industry as a whole. ”

Mark Ruffalo, Johansson’s Avengers teammate and Golden Globe winner for The Undeniable Truth, too has been contrary to the “little” that has changed the HFPA and he has said he is not “proud” of his award.
