Game Boost It is the function of PlayStation 5 that allows you to improve the performance of various PS4 and PS VR games on the next generation console. As you know, all PS4 games are backwards compatible with PS5, and generally have better loading times. But games that have Game Boost will improve their specs, going up to 60fps.
Today Sony has launched a short spot showing some of the first party games that have better Game Boost, such as God of war, Ghost of tsushima… and Shadow of the Colossus.
The interesting thing about this is that Shadow of the Colossus does not have, at the moment, any option to improve performance on PS5. If you play it on the new console, you can choose the same options as on PS4: cinematic mode at 30 fps or performance mode at 60 fps.
Is it a bug, or is it that it hasn’t been announced yet? The funny thing is that Sony has left out of the trailer other first party games such as Ratchet & Clank, Days Gone and Blood & Truth (from PS VR), which do already have Game Boost.
Bluepoint games, the studio that developed the remake of Shadow of the Colossus on PS4, is the one that released PS5 with the remake of Demon’s Souls. As a result, Sony is negotiating to buy the studio.
The truth is that there are not many PS4 games that have received improvements on PS5: apart from those mentioned by Sony, we find third party games such as Genshin Impact, Destiny 2 or Fortnite. Others will also arrive soon, such as Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, although they will be versions developed specifically for consoles, unlike what happens in Xbox Series X / S with FPS Boost, where there are already almost 100 games with framerate of 60fps or up to 120fps.
