After what Michael Keaton and Tim Burton set the bar for the Batman of the 90s (although the first was in ’89) quite high, Joel schumacher he picked up the baton to direct two other films. The first of these was Batman Forever, the movie starring Val kilmer that marked the decline of the franchise during the decade and hinted at the tone that Batman and Robin would end up having, With George Clooney giving life to Bruce wayne.
For quite some time there has been talk of a cut from the darkest director of Batman forever. With the proliferation of campaigns in favor of projects conceived by the original director, as has been the case of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, we have not been slow to see hastags like #ReleaseThe SchumacherCut.
From the Austin, Texas Film Festival, the producer Akiva Goldsman has confirmed (via Epic stream) the existence of a Batman Forever director’s cut much darker than the movie that hit theaters.
While Warner is unlikely to be swayed by public requests again, for now at least, we wouldn’t mind taking a peek at that cut of the late Joel Schumacher from the Batman Forever movie. However, the change in tone was one of the most criticized aspects of the film, which contrasted too much with what was seen in the Tim Burton films. Unfortunately, as we say, it is unlikely that the studio was going to monetize the cost of preparing that cut for its premiere in theaters or on streaming platforms.
