Housemarque’s new PS5 exclusive, Returnal, is now available to all players. Surely you have spent the whole weekend glued to this frantic roguelike, of which we have already shared our analysis and also the first sales data in the United Kingdom. The feelings are very positive, but there are certain aspects for improvement in Returnal.
After learning that it has already suffered review bombing in Metacritic or that players request an improvement to the Returnal save system, its creators have released a new patch (weighing 1GB) for this PS5 exclusive, available from this morning May 3.
While no changes have been reported to saves, this new Returnal patch stands out for quite a few things. Waiting for Housemarque to share the full notes of this update 01.003.001, they have been notified some improvements to the progression system and the way to explore the scenarios of the game.
Basically, the patch tweaks some playable aspects that haven’t quite convinced Returnal players. For example, more shortcuts for biomes have been added, now all weapons and items collected go directly to reserves, and some elements are now permanent, despite the fact that we will not be able to save game whenever we want.
- Permanent progress items such as utility equipment and key items. All weapons and items collected go to the loot pool and can be found later.
- Unlocked weapon upgrades can appear in the weapons section below.
- The ether remains even though we are running.
- Keys to shortcuts in all biomes, after defeating a boss.
- After biome 3, the action begins at a higher level.
One of the most criticized points of Returnal is that it is totally faithful to the roguelike genre. This means that we will not be able to save game whenever we want, which implies that we will die many times. Housemarque promises that it is monitoring the situation and that it takes it into account for a future update.
