Animatronics has been implemented in the theme park sector for quite some time, although generally limited to sets or fixed locations so that visitors can see and photograph their favorite characters. Disney wants to change that with Project Kiwi, an ambitious project that focuses on some of the most famous little characters in the Mouse House and that will soon begin in its theme parks in the United States.

The first creation of Project Kiwi is Baby groot, the lovable character from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that emerges from the cuttings of the ancient Groot, who sacrifices himself towards the end of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Since 2018, Disney engineers have worked to shape a small-scale animatronic capable of replicating Baby Groot’s movements and acting, and even looking Disney theme park guests in the eye.

On April 30 some of the locations of the House of the Mouse in the United States will open, and very soon this project will be launched to see the reaction of the public with this adorable Baby Groot animatronic. If the result is good, the idea is to create more with characters like Olaf, from Frozen. Hopefully they don’t go crazy like The Simpsons and we end up having to fry them into photos so they don’t conquer the world.

What do you think of the animatronic Groot created for Disney parks? Can you imagine the security measures that he must take so that no one has the happy idea of ”throwing him in the car”?
