Spider-Man was the hero chosen by Sony to launch its new PlayStation 5 console, and it has turned out to be the right decision. Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales has been a sales success, surpassing other Sony games such as Ghost of tsushima or The Last of Us Part 2 in the United States, despite taking less time on sale.
This is indicated by the sales data in the US in March 2021 from NPD Group, specifically the list of the 10 best-selling games in the US during the last 12 months (from April 2020 to March 2021). Miles Morales is ranked 5, second only to cross-platform installments of Call of Duty, Madden, and Assassin’s Creed.

Until 2020 (in its first month and a half) Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales sold 4.1 million units between PS4 and PS5. Updated data on how long The Last of Us Part 2 has been sold is unknown, although in its first three days it sold more than 4 million units. And Ghost of Tsushima, according to data from a month ago, sold 6.5 million units.
Let us remember that the data that Miles Morales exceeds Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us is only in the United States. In fact, Miles Morales was the fifth best-selling game in March 2021, while Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 left the top 20 months ago.
The previous Spider-Man game on PS4, in 2018, sold more than 13.2 million copies (2019 data, may be much higher), placing it as the best-selling PS4 exclusive, and the sixth best-selling game on the console overall.
Meanwhile, in the Nintendo world, today’s sales data has left us another headline: Mario Kart 8 (counting sales on Switch and Wii U) is the best-selling racing game in US history.
