Last Friday the bomb jumped that Days Gone 2 was in Sony’s plans, but that finally the project was canceled. The Bloomberg agency pointed to the development of a sequel to the PS4 exclusive, with Jeff Ross at the helm, but it seems that PlayStation had other plans for the study.
In the last few hours, many rumors about Days Gone have emerged, confirming the existence of plans for a sequel for PS5 and other details. Former Bend Principal, Jeff Ross, has given more information about what was this sequel going to be, in an interview with David Jaffe, the creator of God of War.
Jeff Ross himself confirms that Days Gone 2 was going to have a cooperative mode, on a shared universe approach. The idea is that Deacon would have a partner in this desolate open world, with whom he could join forces, build shelters, settlements and much more.
”It’s one of the things we had in our proposal, yes. It was the idea of a shared universe with cooperative play. We wanted to include the cooperative from the beginning in the first Days Gone, but obviously you have to make concessions for what you will not be able to do ”, Jeff Ross stated in the interview.
This means that the idea of Days Gone was going to have the cooperative from the beginning, but it seems that Sony decided not to include it in the first game. It’s no secret that PlayStation is opting for single-player experiences with its PS4 exclusives, and this will continue with PS5.
”The idea was to take this world you’ve built, and all these assets and systems, and repurpose them for some kind of multiplayer version of this universe with a similar theme. So it would be with guys like Deacon trying to survive, building a house, club or team. I think it would be fun to be in that world cooperatively and see what horde battles could be like. ”

Sadly, it looks like we won’t see these co-op ideas on PS5 (for now). Days Gone 2 was canceled to the detriment of a new Uncharted installment, although It is not ruled out that the IP may return in the future.
Days Gone is one of the free PS Plus games for this April, so you can take the opportunity to play it on PS4 and PS5. And in case you don’t have a PlayStation console, the Bend Studio title will arrive on PC in the coming months.
