And much more is on the way: an agreement between Microids and IMPS, the company that owns the Smurfs worldwide license, has given the green light to four new video games that will arrive in the next five years.
Are actually, five games, because one of them was already announced long ago, and now confirms its launch at the end of this year. Is named The Smurfs – Mission Vileaf, and it is a adventure platforms in 3D for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. So far only this concept art has been revealed. Of course, he will try the Smurfs trying to foil once again the evil Gargamel’s plans to save his town and the forest.
“It is an honor to be able to work with such a rich franchise that has passed through all generations: each project will include some different element to adapt to the varied types of public”, states Stéphane Longears, CEO of Microids.
This agreement coincides with the development of a new television series The Smurfs, which will be broadcast this year around the world. These five games (if we count this year’s) explore different genres.
The Smurfs – Mission Vileaf is the work of Osome studio, who previously worked on Asterix and Obelix XXL 2 and XXL 3. On this occasion, they switch to another classic French comic license, although the irreducible Gauls will also return this year with a new game, Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All, a beat ’em up with beautiful 2D graphics nailed to the comic.
Both games (Asterix and The Smurfs) will be published in Spain by Meridiem Games, the publisher that brings all the games of the French Microids. Recently, they also announced a Nintendo Switch edition of all three Oddworld games.
