The borderlands movie adds a new member to its cast: Édgar Ramírez will play Atlas, businessman behind an arms manufacturing company, and “the most powerful person in the universe.” Eli Roth, the film’s director, describes Atlas as “a magnetic personality, with charisma and charm, but a menacing air.”

The Borderlands film, written by Craig Mazin (writer also of the future The Last of Us series) has already started filming, and the first synopsis arrives via Deadline. Lilith (Cate blanchett) is a mercenary who is entrusted with the mission of finding the lost daughter of Atlas (Ramirez).

To do this, create a Roland team (Kevin hart), a former elite mercenary; Tiny Tina (Ariana greenblatt), a girl who is an expert in demolitions; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s muscular protector); Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), a scientist on the brink of madness; and Claptrap (the voice of Jack black), a smart robot.

“These unexpected heroes will have to face alien monsters and dangerous bandits to search for and protect the lost girl, who may have unimaginable power in their hands. The fate of the universe may be in their hands, but they will fight for something more: for the team.”

Borderlands is one of the many film or TV adaptations of video games that are underway, such as Uncharted or Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which will arrive in the coming months.
