120 games will disappear permanently after the closure of the PS Store on PS3, PSP and PS Vita, according to a study

The virtual stores of PS3, PS Vita and PSP will close permanently in the coming months

The closure of the digital stores of PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita will mean the disappearance of more than 2,000 digital-only games, according to a study carried out by VGC. The vast majority of them can be purchased on other digital platforms on PC or on Xbox. Also, many of those games are reissues of PlayStation 2 games that still exist in physical form.

However, some 120 sets are completely exclusive to the PSP, PS3 or PS Vita PS Store, and starting this summer, unless reissued otherwise, will disappear permanently. If you already had them, you can download them again, but they cannot be purchased. The PS Store will close on July 2 on PS3 and PSP, and on August 27 on PS Vita.

According to the VGC study (which may have a margin of error, because the online versions of the stores of these consoles are no longer operational and it is difficult to obtain accurate data), this is all that will be lost. Games with simultaneous physical versions have been excluded.

  • Over 630 digital-only Vita games
  • Around 730 digital-only PS3 (PSN) games
  • A few digital PSP games
  • 293 PlayStation Minis
  • 336 PS2 Classics
  • About 260 PS1 Classics, mostly on PSP and PS vita

For PS Vita digital games, expect that number to be higher. 630 games is a mid-2017 data, and PS Vita games have continued to be released since then, albeit to a lesser extent. In fact, there were still indie games in development for PS Vita when the news of the closure of the digital store was surprised.

As for PS3, 134 games exclusively digital PS3 will continue to be available on PS Now: it will be the only way to access them.

Among the games that will disappear permanently (that is, they cannot be found in the digital stores of other platforms or in physical versions of these consoles or of the PS1 and PS2 classics) we would find about 120 titles. Some of them are Infamous: Festival of Blood, Echochrome II, Lumines Supernova, The Last Guy, Rain, Trash Panic, Pain, PixelJunk Racers, Tokyo Jungle, TxK and MotorStorm RC.

As of store closures, digital versions of games such as Beyond Good & Evil HD, Rayman 3 HD, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD, SoulCalibur II HD Online, Resident Evil Code : Veronica X, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and the two Bionic Commando will become exclusive to PC and Xbox thanks to backward compatibility.

Among these games there are many SEGA titles, such as Daytona USA, Fighting Vipers, Jet Set Radio, NiGHTS Into Dreams, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic the Fighters, Sonic CD, Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic CD and Space Channel 5 Part 2. On the other hand, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronices will once again be exclusive to Wii, since on PS3 they only existed in digital format, unlike Wii.

The PS3, PS Vita, and PSP digital stores only have a few months left, so you might want to take a look at them to see if you find anything interesting. We have already left you some recommendations.
