The definitive version (and this time yes, it seems that it will be the definitive and final version) of the indie classic The Binding of Isaac is now available on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Binding of Isaac Repentance is now available on PC, and in the third quarter of 2021 it will also reach PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. These last two will have a physical edition distributed by Nicalis (and with an instruction manual). Here you can see the launch trailer.
Edmund McMillen, creator of the game whose first version will turn 10 in September (came out in 2011) say what “Repentance is so huge, so new, and so full of options which makes the previous updates look like prequels. ” In total, there are 130 new items (making a total of 700), more than 100 enemies, more than 25 bosses, 2 new playable characters, more than 5,000 new room layouts, and a new ending.
The Binding of Isaac is one of the main responsible for popularize the genre of roguelike or roguelite, which has recently given us jewels like Dead Cells or Hades. Without a doubt, Binding of Isaac stands out on its own merits for its addictive gameplay, which McMillen has spent 10 years refining, and its courage in introducing religious themes: it is inspired by the sacrifice of isaac, Biblical account of Genesis.
