Sega leads the list of publishers with the best games published in 2020 according to Metacritic

It seems that Sega has been very well received among users consoles and PC, since it has risen as best game editor of all 2020 according to Metacritic. It is clear that last year was not to the liking of many, perhaps almost no one, since it saw the beginning of the global coronavirus pandemic.

But we had great games that were finished and released, and although this 2021 not that it paints much better due to the early development that many are through, we have already seen equally great premieres. The ranking has been calculated only on the basis of positive reviews and use four factors to determine them– Metascore mean for games released in 2020, percentage of rated games that exceed 75%, percentage of games rated lower than 49%, and number of games above 90% score.

The mean in Metascore is the most important, so the others are used for editors with greater consistency. So we have a total list of 48 editors, but we leave you just below the top 10 of them where to see that the indies did very well and with the odd surprise.

  1. Sega
  2. Annapurna Interactive
  3. Capcom
  4. Sony
  5. Activision Blizzard
  6. Xbox Game Sturios
  7. Aksys Games
  8. No More Robots
  9. Nintendo
  10. Return Digital

The highest rated console manufacturer was Sony, but Microsoft had a significant improvement thanks to Microsoft Flight Simulator. On the other hand, Nintendo had an unusually low score and was still in 9th place. In essence, this has been due to the general shortage of games in 2020, despite the fact that none ended with a “bad” score on Metacritic.

What’s more, Capcom and Activision Blizzard were the traditional and multiplatform AAA publishers to reach the top 10, as Square enix stayed on the 11th, Ubisoft the 14 and Bethesda The 16th. Maybe Sega will catch you by surprise, although it shouldn’t, since in addition to owning Atlus, they have seen the rise in popularity of sagas like Yakuza, Bayonetta and Two Point Hospital.

Sega Astro City Mini will also be distributed via Funstock, shipping worldwide

Sega got an average score of 81.6% with two games as ‘Great’ (Persona 5 Royal and Yakuza 0) and 95% of all its games scored as ‘Good’. Polish publisher Ultimate Games, with titles released as Robot Squad Simulator and Wanking Simulator. Sega recently announced Total War: Rome Remastered for PC.
