GeForce RTX 3050 will perform at the level of an RTX 2060: ray tracing for all

GeForce RTX 3050

Since we started talking about it, the GeForce RTX 3050 has become one of the most anticipated graphics cards of the moment. It is understandable, since we are talking about a graphical solution that will be aimed at low-mid-range market, and that will allow to democratize, really, the work of rays.

I know what you are thinking, you wonder what I mean by democratizing ray tracing. Well, it’s very simple, I fit that concept with the idea of launching a graphics card with a price less than 200 euros that is capable of moving games with ray tracing in 1080p while maintaining an acceptable fluidity and a good level of graphic quality.

Everything seems to indicate that the GeForce RTX 3050 of NVIDIA will hit the market with an approximate price of 199.99 euros, and that will be accompanied by a more powerful version, the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti. The former will offer performance similar to that of an RTX 2060 (maybe the same or slightly lower), while the latter will position, more or less, at the level of an RTX 2070.

I remind you that the RTX 2060 defends quite well in 1080p with active ray tracing thanks to DLSS 2.0 technology, and that the RTX 2070 was, until recently, a high-end model.

Possible specifications of the GeForce RTX 3050

  • Graphic core GA107 in 8 nm process.
  • 2,304 shaders at 1,690 MHz-1,725 MHz, normal and turbo mode.
  • 72 texturing units.
  • 40 raster units.
  • 72 tensor cores.
  • 18 nuclei RT.
  • 128-bit memory bus.
  • 4 GB of GDDR6 at 14 GHz.
  • Power in FP32: not specified.
  • TGP: less than 90 watts. You will need an additional 6-pin power connector, and a 400 watt power supply.

It will be interesting to see how you will position the GeForce RTX 3050 versus the Radeon RX 6600, a low-mid-range graphics card that will position in the same price range as the NVIDIA solution, and that we can consider as the spiritual successor to the mythical Radeon RX 580, one of the best graphics cards that AMD has released to date. moment for its excellent price-performance value.

If all goes according to plan, the GeForce RTX 3050 should be announced between January and February 2021. The “Ti” version could make an appearance alongside that one, although there is still nothing definitive in this regard. Before finishing, I remind you of the possible specifications, and the possible price, of the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti:

  • 3,584 shaders at 1,525 MHz-1,750 MHz, normal and turbo mode.
  • 112 texturing units.
  • 64 raster units.
  • 112 tensor cores.
  • 28 RT cores.
  • 192-bit memory bus.
  • 6 GB of GDDR6 at 14 GHz.
  • Power in FP32: not specified.
  • Approximate TGP: 120 watts. You will need a 450 watt power supply and a 6-pin connector.
  • Estimated price: 249 euros.
