The Xiaomi sub-brand has presented the Redmi G series, a new line of gaming laptops that stands out for offering a Very interesting value for money.
In terms of design, the Redmi G stand out for having a relatively simple finish without excesses, something that, frankly, It is not usual in the gaming sector. If we look at the front, we find a screen that brings us very contained edges, to such an extent that the front camera has had to be integrated into the lower section.
The rear part presents angular motifs that fit within that «gaming spirit» that the Redmi G have. At the level of specifications we find a very good value, since the base configuration starts at a price of $ 760, 642 euros at the exchange , and has a 16.1-inch IPS panel with 1080p resolution, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, 178 degree viewing angles and can represent the 100% sRGB color spectrum.
That screen configuration is common to all options, which means that it is included in even the most economical model. This also has a processor Intel Core i5 10200H, based on the Comet Lake architecture and equipped with four cores and eight threads. The GPU is a GTX 1650 with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory, and has 16GB DDR4 memory. Storage is carried out by a 512GB PCIE SSD.
We can configure it with Intel Core i5 10300H and Core i7 10750H processors. The first has four cores and eight threads, the second six cores and twelve threads, both use the Comet Lake S architecture. We can also mount a superior graphics card, the GTX 1650 Ti, which raises the total shaders to 1,024 (the GTX 1650 has 896) and maintains the 4 GB of graphics memory, but it is GDDR6.
Otherwise the Redmi G have Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, they have a USB 2.0 connector, two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, a mini DisplayPort 1.4 output, an HDMI 2.0 output, a USB Type-C port, a 3.5 mm jack connector, and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The built-in battery is 55 Wh, enough to theoretically achieve a maximum of 5.5 hours of use doing light tasks. It weighs 2.5 kilograms and has a well-executed cooling system that is supported by two turbine fans.
Xiaomi Redmi G launch date and prices
This new gaming laptop will be available from August 17 in China, although can already be purchased in pre-order. At the moment we do not know the date of its possible arrival on the international market, but in principle there is nothing that prevents Xiaomi from launching its Redmi G series in our country.
As we have already said, the most economical model will have a price at the change of 642 euroswhile the top-of-the-range model, with Core i7 10750H, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD and GTX 1650 Ti, will be priced at 845 euros. They are very good prices, although we must bear in mind that upon arrival in Spain they could rise considerably due to the tax application.
On the other hand, I must say that joining a 144 Hz screen with 1080p resolution and mounting graphics cards as little powerful as the GTX 1650 and GXT 1650 Ti it’s almost like riding a Ferrari on bicycle wheels. I say this because neither of those two graphics cards is capable of moving current games while maintaining a stable 60 FPS in 1080p and maximum quality, so no, they do not allow to really take advantage of a panel with such a high refresh rate.
We do not know if this equipment will be compatible with G-Sync, but of course it would be an important added value.
