In a summary technology report, Micron confirmed not only the existence of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, but also your memory settings and frequency this.
If you look at the attached table, courtesy of the prolific VideoCardz, you will see that the GeForce RTX 3090 will come configured with 12GB GDDR6X memory at a frequency of between 19 and 21 GHz, a data that fits with almost all the information that we had seen previously. Since the information comes from an official source (Micron), we can dismiss those rumors that the RTX 3090 should have 20 GB of graphics memory, although in principle nothing prevents the RTX 3080 from coming with 10 GB of memory graph.
Regarding the total bandwidth, we see that Micron refers to two possibilities, 912 GB / s and 1,008 GB / s. To achieve a bandwidth of 1 TB / s (that 1,000 GB / s), the GeForce RTX 3090 should have GDDR6X memory at a speed of 21 GHz and be accompanied by a 384 bit bus. If we put this in context we will realize that there would have been a notable jump, as the RTX 2080 Ti uses GDDR6 memory at 14 GHz and has a 352-bit bus.
Possible specifications and price of the GeForce RTX 3090
Micron has not confirmed the rest of the features of the next top of the range from NVIDIA for the sector of graphics cards of general consumption, but thanks to the information that has been appearing during the last days we can share with you an estimate of its possible specifications:
- 5,376 shaders.
- 336 texturing units.
- 96 raster units.
- 672 tensor cores.
- 168 RT cores.
- 384 bit bus.
- 12GB of 21GHz GDDR6X memory.
- Frequencies of 1,410 MHz-1,740 MHz, normal and turbo mode.
- Gross power: 18.71 TFLOPs in FP32 (single precision).
As for the possible sale price, rumors do not agree, although they agree that the GeForce RTX 3090 it’s going to be more expensive than the RTX 2080 Ti, and also much more powerful. This graphics card hit the market with a price of 1,259 euros, so the sources that say the RTX 3090 could cost 1,400 euros They are not saying anything crazy, since it equates to an increase of 141 euros.
In contrast, other sources say that the GeForce RTX 3090 it could cost up to 1,700 euros in its most expensive versions (“premium” custom designs, I imagine), sheer madness for a general consumer graphics card. Until a few years ago, a top-of-the-range graphics card did not cost more than 400-500 euros, so do your math.
On the performance, everything indicates that the RTX 3090 will be, on average, 40% more powerful than the RTX 2080 Ti, but it could multiply its ray tracing performance by two to four times, thanks to the optimizations of the new Ampere architecture, and also thanks to its greater number of RT cores, dedicated to ray tracing acceleration.
If all goes according to plan NVIDIA will present the GeForce RTX 3090 On September 1 during a special event that will be led by the CEO of the company, Jensen Huang.
