PS5 will bet on the fake 4K, according to several developers

That’s how clear Dusk Golem has been, PS5 will bet on the fake 4K. According to this insider, who correctly leaked key information about Resident Evil Village before its launch, both the results that Capcom is obtaining with said game on the Sony console and the evaluations of other studies point in that direction.

The source has a fairly high degree of credibility, as I said is an insider who nailed everything he leaked about Resident Evil Village, and also has contacts in the industry. On the other hand, I must say that this idea that PS5 will bet on the false 4K does not surprise me at all, in fact I already told you when we saw what graphics card the PS5 GPU could be equivalent to that it was between an RX 5600 XT and an RX 5700, and both are solutions intended to play in 1440p, not 4K.

But that is not all. It should also be borne in mind that PS5 has already demonstrated its shortcomings with the Unreal Engine 5 demo, since could only run it in dynamic 1440p and with more than obvious jerks that confirmed about 30 FPS scraped with clear dips. All this has an explanation, and I have already given it to you in previous articles, PS5 is going to be more powerful than PS4, but new generation games they will also be more demanding.

PS5 will bet on the fake 4K, what does this mean exactly?

Well, it is very simple, when we say that PS5 will bet on the false 4K we are referring to that will resort to rescaling to reach that resolution, a technique that has practically become commonplace on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, although the latter uses it less frequently thanks to its greater power.

PS5 does not have enough power to move new generation games in 4K while maintaining an “acceptable fluidity”, between quotes because I still do not know if we are talking about 30 FPS or 60 FPS.

I know what you are wondering, if Xbox Series X has the same problem, and according to the source of the news, no, Microsoft’s console handles much better working in 4K resolutions. Again I’m not surprised, the PS5 GPU has 2,304 shaders does not have all the features of the RDNA 2 architecture, while the Xbox Series X GPU has 3,328 shaders and it has, in theory, all the functions of the RDNA 2 architecture. There is a huge difference, as I have already told you on other occasions.

We will see how the developers fix this situation, especially so that PS5 is not at an obvious disadvantage compared to Xbox Series X in multiplatform games. Maybe they will opt for that terrible parity that weighed down Xbox against PS2 at the time, although this time Microsoft has a more important position than before in the sector, so I see it unlikely.

When saying that PS5 will bet on the false 4K we might think that Sony’s console will be cheaper than Microsoft’s, but according to this insider it will not be like that. Assures that PS5 will be less powerful than Xbox Series X but more expensive. It is not confirmed and I know it sounds hard to believe, but it makes sense. Sony has less margin to assume losses for each console sold, and it must also be borne in mind that launching PS5 with a much lower price than Xbox Series X could give a bad image, make the user believe that it costs less because it is lower (and obviously it is, in terms of raw power).

I remind you that the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X will take place at the end of 2020, specifically in November. Both are rumored to be priced at approximately between 400 and 500 euros.
