Several images of the Surface Duo have been published by the leaker Evan blass and suggest an imminent launch, in this case under the AT&T operator, although the folding will be compatible with all operators in the United States and other regions.
Surface Duo is a very special device for several reasons. Beyond its form factor in the industry’s attempt to bring some innovation to a smartphone segment that has stopped growing, it supposes the Microsoft’s return to the mobile phone business once the Nokia and Windows Phone fiasco was over.
Presented last fall at the most important Surface event in Microsoft’s history, it is a device halfway between mobile and tablet with two independent screens that are joined thanks to a 360-degree hinge. It will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset as the hardware base and will be governed by a Android tuned by Microsoft.

If you follow us you know him well. After the presentation, several Microsoft executives, including CEO Satya Nadella, have been showing it in public, although it is not known if the final design will be the one we have seen these months ago.
The leaked images run through the device in open and closed positions and seem to confirm everything we knew. Two independent displays (although they will work together with some applications) joined by a set of hinges that will allow movements up to 360 degrees.
The chassis would be finished in a magnesium alloy, a compound that Microsoft has used throughout the Surface line and that provides lightness, resistance and great appeal. We see the rounded corners and the Surface logo presiding over the outer lid.
Perhaps the most interesting comes from the pre-installed applications. We can see Edge, OneNote or Outlook and it is no surprise since Microsoft has talked about how it has optimized these applications for folding smartphones. What’s more important is the Google apps folder where we see Chrome, Maps, Gmail, and even a Google search bar in Dark Mode. They are the first images where we see Google apps and it does not finish us square. Especially that Google Search and not Bing. We will have to wait for the official launch.
Of course, a folder with Microsoft To Do, Xbox and Skype is not missing and we can also see Office, OneDrive, Calendar, News, Teams, LinkedIn and Spotify. Apart from the familiar design, apps, camera and front flash, the images of the Surface Duo reveal nothing else.
The images claim to be a leak of the “Microsoft Surface Duo for AT&T.” so it is likely that Microsoft has partnered with the operator to commercialize the terminal. But not exclusively. We recently learned how the terminal had passed the FCC and SIG wireless standards and communications certifications, and therefore we know that it will be compatible with all types of 4G networks and it will support NFC and WiFi 5.
It is not confirmed, but there is talk of two 5.6-inch AMOLED screens with a resolution of 1800 x 1350 pixels and a Snapdragon 855 SoC. The most anticipated device of the Surface line is ready and we expect official news very soon.
