Intel and MediaTek promise to launch their 5G laptops in 2021

The launch of 5G notebooks with chips from Intel and MediaTek is underway and promises to improve the Internet connectivity experience under the new mobile broadband network.

MediaTek has announced advances in its collaboration with Intel to bring 5G experiences to personal computers next generation. Its T700 5G modem, which will be used for the new 5G laptops, has been certified once it has been tested in real scenarios.

For its part, Intel has made progress in systems integration, validation, and development of platform optimizations and is working on engineering support alongside its OEM partners.

HP and Dell They will be the first original equipment manufacturers to launch this type of equipment on the Windows platform. Intel is expected to deliver the first samples of this solution to OEMs this quarter for effective availability in early 2021.

5G laptops

The implementation of 5G will not be limited to smart phones and next year there will be a diverse offer of PCs. The solution from Intel and MediaTek is important because of the position of the first in personal computers, but it is not the first to hit the market. .

Lenovo introduced the industry’s first 5G notebook last year. Under the internal name ‘Project Limitless’ it uses a hardware base with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx 5G chipset, the first designed for personal computers. the issue here is the known one, the limited performance of ARM on PCs and the problematic execution of Win32 applications.

The 5G laptops from Intel and MediaTek will not have these problems and, together with the greater deployment of the new networks, it will allow them to take advantage of their performance advantages, latency and others also on laptops. The deployment is much slower than expected and the trade war started by Trump blocking Huawei is not going to help, so the massive use will take a few years as it happened with 4G.

In any case, it is expected that the 5G reach 40 percent of the world population by 2025.
