When will the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 graphics be available?

GeForce RTX 3000 graphics cards will be announced this month and will be released in September, according to the Chinese page MyDrivers, which confirms previous information on the manufacturing and distribution schedule for the new green giant.

You already know them. The GeForce RTX 3000 will be the new generation of graphics chips codenamed “Ampere”. While waiting for AMD to replicate the success of its Ryzen processors on Radeon graphics, NVIDIA has continued to grow in revenue, profits and number of employees and in market capitalization until outperform intel itself. It is willing to buy the ARM Holdings itself and what to tell you that you do not know, it dominates the graphic segment with a firm hand and users are looking forward to what it can offer in the next generation.

The models that the green giant will commercialize to open its new generation of graphics are not officially known, but everything points to covering the high range as has happened in recent releases with two models: RTX 3080 and RTX 3090.

The first in the series would be the GeForce RTX 3080, for which 10 Gbytes of dedicated memory is expected with a minimum bandwidth of 18 Gbps and 4,352 CuDA cores. It would be a direct replacement for the current RTX 2080 and would outperform the TI variant. It could come up with special PCB design and cooling design. The second graphic, GeForce RTX 3090, would be quite special if it ends up being confirmed. NVIDIA has not released an x90 chip since the GTX 690 in 2012. The rest of the consumer graphics, mainly the RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 would arrive later.

As for prices, we already said, go preparing the portfolio because will be more expensive than the current generation (which are not cheap), at least at launch. The growing interest in cryptocurrency mining (again a bubble that affects players without eating or drinking it), the limitations on the production of the foundrie TSMC shipped in a thousand orders from other manufacturers and the management of the NVIDIA market itself would be behind of this situation. It is not confirmed. We will have to wait.

On the other hand, we will not be able to use the change of platform to acquire current graphics at a cheaper price, because NVIDIA has started to discontinue the high-end models of the current generation “Turing” and models such as RTX 2070, RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080 Super and RTX 2080 Ti have entered the “production shutdown” phase. It is a practice that NVIDIA repeats every time it launches a new generation of graphics, both so as not to cannibalize sales of the new models, as well as not having to lower the prices of the previous ones.

GeForce RTX 3000, planned release dates

With the above in mind, the latest information that comes to us (always unofficial, but with signs of truth) of the release dates are the following:

  • Announcement in late August. The Gamescom 2020 fair would be an ideal setting.
  • GeForce RTX 3080 Ti / 3080/3070 launched on September 17.
  • Launch of the GeForce RTX 3070 in October.
  • GeForce RTX 3060 launched in November.
