Ubisoft will not raise the price of games for PS5 and Xbox Series

The debate continues about the price of games, and that is that with the new generation of consoles around the corner, there are several voices, including publishers, that advance a general rise which will affect at least the most popular releases, read major franchises and triple A titles for the first time. But that will not be the case with Ubisoft, at least initially.

Confirms it the company itself, who has just presented its financial results and, as usual, has been asked questions from investors, one of which pointed directly to the issue at hand: will Ubisoft raise the price of games for the new generation of consoles? The answer from Yves Guillemot, CEO of the company, is no.

In fact, Guillemot says that not only will the price of games for the new consoles not go up, but they will add to Microsoft’s Smart Delivery, offering users the possibility of update purchased games Xbox One to Xbox Series versions at no additional cost. And they will do the same for PS4 and PS5 even if there is no similar specific program.

Among the Ubisoft games that can be upgraded for free from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series are some of their most powerful titles for the coming months, for example Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or Far Cry 6.

However, the fact that Ubisoft maintains its position does not mean that it is immovable. It will depend a lot on how the situation evolves and of how many publishers join to raise the price of the games… And to see how many and for how long they resist charging more for the same product. The most important and the one that has given the most talk is 2K Games, whose launches will increase its cost.

The title with which 2K Games will test is NBA 2K21, which for PC and consoles of the current generation will come out to the usual $ 59.99 / euro, while for PS5 and Xbox One Series it will cost $ 69.99 / euros. Those ten dollars / euros would be the rise for which part of the industry bets and its reasons have, although they will never convince everyone.

However, the price of the games could experience an even more pronounced blow – always looking at it from the consumer’s point of view – if news is confirmed that sets the bar at 74.99 euros (without conversion euros-dollar, since only They do it when whoever sells wins). That’s what games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West, among others, could cost.
