Social networks already reach more than half of humanity

Are you users of social networks? Not? Don’t be so sure, because according to a report that was just released, more than half of humanity uses them and it is an upward trend. Only in the least developer territories is there a small but equally upward presence of the phenomenon.

In addition, it is important to determine what we consider social networks, because according to Digital 2020 July Global Statshot Published by Hootsuite and We Are Social, social networks are Facebook and Instagram, but also YouTube or WhatsApp, and as they put it, any medium in which a group of people can join for talks is a social network.

Based on the data in the report, about 4 billion people they would habitually connect to social networks. The ‘exact’ figure will be 3.6 billion, which is 51% of the world population. It is the first time in history that such usage penetration has been achieved and, as we say, it is going further. Growth in the last twelve months is calculated at 10%, at a rate of one million people a day.

The data is certainly surprising because, as the study points out, most platforms restrict the entry age from 13 years old, which – although we know that it is not met – would leave many people out of the statistics. Thus, it would be more than the average of humanity that can join social networks, which would have done so.

Of course, all this has the seams in the air and like many minors sneak into social networks, the average humanity is -believing the data- as it is in absolute terms, but very relative in terms of regions. For example, the percentage of use in North America rises to almost 70% of the population, while in Africa it plummets to just 7%.

The report offers a lot of other information about the phenomenon of social networks, but the news is the one we just gave you. However, a question remains in the air: what are the most popular social networks on the current scene? An image is worth a thousand words, which is often said.

These are the most popular social networks in the world

Facebook marks a new milestone according to its own data and accumulates more than 2,600 million users. YouTube and WhatsApp follow with around 2,000 million users each and if we ignore the next in the list, Instagram appears, also owned by Facebook with more than 1,000 million users. Ergo, Facebook is the true social giant of the West, but be careful with what comes from China, because it does it in increasing numbers: Wechat, Tik Tok, QQ, Sina Weibo…

Surprising to see at the bottom of the list to Twitter with only 300 and a million million users, being as it is the most relevant of the social networks in the matter of information. At least, in the West and only until Donald Trump wants … But it is also surprising that communications services such as WhatsApp, Wechat and the like are put in the bag of social networks. Be that as it may, humanity is social and has its reflection on the Internet.
