The performance of iOS 14 on an iPhone 6s is really good, that is the conclusion that we can draw from the first tests of use that we have had the opportunity to see, and it is something very positive, since said smartphone was released in September 2015, which means that it will soon be five years old and that, despite everything, it is still perfectly viable.
Before going into the results of this iOS 14 performance test, I want to remind you of the specifications of the iPhone 6s, since they will allow us to put those results into perspective. This terminal has a SoC Apple A9, whose CPU is dual core and it works at 1.84 GHz. Its GPU is a PowerVR GT7600 with six graphic cores and it has 2 GB of RAM.
To give you an idea of what these specifications mean and have a more complete vision, its direct rival in 2015, the Galaxy S6, had a Eight-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. The latter stopped receiving operating system updates in 2017, the date it received Android N, while the iPhone 6s will continue to receive updates until the end of 2021.
The difference Apple makes in terms of support is clear, and translates into significant value, since allows us to take advantage of our smartphones for a longer time. I know what you are thinking, but the performance of iOS 14 really accompanies on an iPhone 6s, there is no significant reduction in performance? Well no, as we have anticipated at the beginning the experience is, in general, quite good, although it is obviously not perfect.
We must bear in mind that we are talking about a smarpthone that will soon be five years old, so we cannot expect the performance of iOS 14 to be at the same level as in a new generation terminal, but as we can see in the video in most of the cases we find a really good fluency, and we can enjoy most of the novelties that this operating system brings, including new widgets and “picture to picture” mode.
Performance of iOS 14 on an iPhone 6s: a worthy farewell
Although there are some delays in keyboard interactions and in the launch of some applications, we can make it clear that iOS 14 represents, in general, a worthy farewell to the iPhone 6s. I say this because it is clear that said operating system will be the last update that this terminal will receive, that is, I am convinced that iOS 15 will only come to iPhone 7 and higher.
Not bad news, keep in mind that the iPhone 6s will be fired having received support for six years, a figure that triples the update cycle that Android-based terminals receive, since, as many of our readers will know, they are normally limited to two years of operating system updates (and three years of security updates).
